Reactions of 1 ,Zdihydropyridines (la-c) and 1,4-dihydropyridines (2a-c) in the presence of benzyne (3) under thermal conditions, and in the case of (2c) under photochemical conditions, have been investigated. Benzyne acts as an oxidizing agent to convert dihydropyridine (la) and (2a) to the corresponding pyridine (4) or adds as a dienophile to (lb-c).

A new domino strategy for selective synthesis of enaminones and their difluoroboron complexes through aryl migration has been developed. The reaction features low-cost and readily accessible starting materials, reliable scalability, and bond-forming efficiency as well as simple one-pot operation, which makes this strategy highly viable for future applications.

In the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst the domino reaction of arylamines, methyl propiolates and aromatic aldehydes in ethanol proceeded smoothly to give polysubstituted 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines in moderate yields. The reaction is believed to involve the Povarov reaction of in situ generated β-enamino ester with the in situ formed aromatic imine.
